Surveillance cameras are very crucial in the household and the business. No one ever wants to be robbed and be completely defenseless.

Surveillance cameras have improved over time - motion sensors, mobile device connectivity, higher resolution, and whatnots. Whether you want a surveillance camera for your business or your home, many surveillance camera distributors offer a wide range of designs and functions that will cater to your security needs.

IP and Analog Cameras

There are two common types of cameras that can be linked to a surveillance camera - the analog and internet protocol camera or IP.

IP camera was introduced later than the analog camera. In other words, IP camera's features are more improved and advanced than the latter. As per the resolution, it ranges from one to five megapixels and the shots will be processed smoother than that of the analog camera. IP camera can be connected to a smartphone, unlike the traditional analog camera. This feature comes in handy when you're off work and wants to check whether the place is free from unwanted visitors. Another point of contrast is that the IP camera works with NVR or Network Video Recorder which processes a higher quality video than the traditional digital video recorders.

In conclusion, all these more advanced features of the IP camera makes it relatively more expensive than the analog camera, but in a larger picture, you will only need a few IP cameras to have the whole place covered. In totality, it will be cheaper to buy a few IP cameras than way too many analog cameras to have your place secured.

What to look for a surveillance camera

1.    The resolution of the camera.

There is no other feature that will top the camera's resolution. It is the most important aspect to look at. Say, you have a camera installed, but everything it captures is grainy and the faces are almost unrecognizable, it can be of no use. For quality footages, it is recommended to choose a surveillance camera with a 720p definition.

2.    Audio pick-up.

If you want a higher level of security, you might want a surveillance camera that can pick up audio. This is not common for surveillance cameras and it will cost you a few more bucks.

3.    Frame rate.

It is given that the higher the frame rate, the smoother the video outputs are. If you want smoother footages, you should choose a surveillance camera that has a higher frame rate. If you are on a tight budget, a lower frame rate may still work but it captures fewer frames in a second or two.

4.    A suitable place to be installed.

Not all surveillance cameras can withstand outdoors. Surveillance cameras need to be dust-proof and waterproof to ensure functionality when installed outside.

5.    Infrared lights.

If you want your surveillance camera to capture clearly even at night, be sure that it is equipped with infrared light. Infrared light will make the footages visible even in low light. If you have more than one infrared light in your camera, the better the footages will turn out.
