DO’s

Here is what you can do to make your PIN memorable but not easily figured out.

• Space your numbers: Often, people choose PINs digits that are alongside each other on the security keypad. To make your PINs digits harder to guess, choose numbers that are far from each other. For example, 3791 is more difficult to guess comparing to 4563. 
• Use letters: Don’t just stick with digit PINs. Use letters too to remember your home security PIN. For example, you can abbreviate your name, a phrase from your favorite author. Type it down on the corresponding number in the security keypad.
• Start with a digit 2-9: PIN numbers between 2-9 are the best rather than PIN numbers that start with 1 as they are more uncommon. 

DON’Ts

The traits of the worst PIN are easy to guess and too common. While the best PINs are easy to remember for you but unknown to others. Here are the PINs you need to avoid.

• Usual PIN: Using one PIN for different security purposes increases its vulnerability. For example, your PIN on your bank cards and alarm system is the same. Don’t do it.
• Anniversaries and Birthdates: Your birthday and anniversary dates can be easily tracked down by criminals. So you better not use these special dates as your PIN. 
• Default PIN: Most of the time, security systems have default PINs. Do not keep using the codes long. Change them as soon as possible.
• Years: PINs that start with years are found to be common by criminals. Avoid using years that have historical importance.
• Address and Phone: Using your address and phone number is not a secured PIN. it would rather be very common and easy to guess. 
• Patterns: PINs with common number patterns or repeating numbers are also to avoid. As some of these numbers are found to be common and easy to guess.

Extra Tips

• Clear your fingerprints on the control pad. Wipe them as much as possible to clean up traces.
• Change your PINs regularly. This will lessen the possibility of hacking.
• Secure your PIN panels from prowlers. Make sure that it is hidden from the naked eyes that do not belong to your home.
